Both benign and malignant brain tumors can be treated radiosurgically up to a diameter of 3 cm (1.18 inch). Larger tumors can be treated with the so-called hyperfractionated treatment, which is also a type of radiosurgery, but in this treatment the dose is divided over 2-3 days. The main indications for radiosurgical treatment in the area of the brain are meningiomas/ skull base meningiomas, neuromas of the cranial nerves (acoustic neuroma = vestibular schwannoma), pituitary adenomas, brain metastases, gliomas, vascular malformations (angiomas) and trigeminal neuralgia (facial pain).
